Pleat Calculator

THE PLEAT CALCULATOR

Standard Pinch Pleat Worksheet (5 Pleats / 4 Spaces)

1 The Measurements

Enter your initial measurements below.

Flat Panel Width (Ref A)
After side hems are sewn
Target Finished Width (Ref B)
Width panel must cover
Return Size (Ref C)
Part turning back to wall
Overlap (Ref D)
Flat leading edge at front

2 Figure the Pleat Size

Determine how much excess fabric needs to be folded up.

1. Start with Flat Fabric Width (Ref A) 0.00
2. Subtract Target Finished Width (Ref B) - 0.00
3. Total Excess Fabric = 0.00
4. Divide by 5 (Total Pleats) → PLEAT SIZE = 0.00

3 Figure the Space Size

Determine the spacing between the pleats.

1. Start with Target Finished Width (Ref B) 0.00
2. Subtract the Return (Ref C) - 0.00
3. Subtract the Overlap (Ref D) - 0.00
4. Total Area for Spaces = 0.00
5. Divide by 4 (Total Spaces) → SPACE SIZE = 0.00

4 The Marking Grid

Calculate the cumulative totals for your tape measure. The final number must match your Flat Fabric Width (Ref A).
